Tell the reader why the firm exists, what the team learned and how that experience supports the investment approach today.
A deck may carry the origin story in a few lines; a data-room narrative gives you room to explain the evidence. Both should rest on the same facts. Connect the founding experience to the opportunity and to the way the firm now works, rather than simply adding more biography.
The origin story that belongs in a data room states the founding insight, connects it to the firm's specific edge, and addresses the long game directly, why this GP is still doing this in fund three. It can and should still be well written. It should not read like the deck's cover slide with more words added.
An allocator underwriting a first-time manager is underwriting a decade, not a fund cycle, which is why the origin story that holds up in diligence explains durability, not just a compelling founding moment.
Include cross-border or partnership context when it explains the firm’s actual work. Show how the partners came together, what each contributes or why operating across markets matters. Use the details you can support; the story does not need invented drama to be interesting.
