ESG, the baseline DDQ answer every fund needs, not only an impact-focused one
A fund does not need to be pursuing impact positioning to need a real answer to this section. This page covers the documentation baseline every fund should have; the fuller impact and PRI-alignment conversation lives on its own page in Specialized Pathways.
Blueprint's ESG, DEI, and impact capital page is for a manager actively building an impact or PRI-aligned positioning. This section is narrower and applies to every fund answering a DDQ, impact-focused or not: does an ESG policy exist, is it actually integrated into the investment process, and is there a real climate risk framework behind it, rather than a policy statement with no operational process attached.
ILPA and ILPA DDQ are marks of the Institutional Limited Partners Association. Blueprint is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by ILPA.
Why a policy document alone does not satisfy this section
A narrative ESG policy with no supporting process detail is the single most common way this section falls short. An allocator wants to see where ESG considerations actually enter the investment process, at sourcing, at the investment committee, or at portfolio monitoring, not a general statement that the fund "considers ESG factors." The process detail is what separates a real answer from a compliance-minded paragraph nobody actually follows.
What this section documents
- An ESG policy and integration framework, stating specifically where in the investment process ESG considerations are applied.
- A climate risk assessment, aligned to the TCFD framework or to the PRI Climate Module, developed with ILPA and iCI, where the fund has adopted it.
- A portfolio-level ESG monitoring approach: what gets tracked across the portfolio, and how often.
- A negative screening policy, where one exists, stated in a way that aligns with the investment policy statements of the LPs the fund is raising from.
Where the fuller conversation lives instead
A manager actively pursuing impact-oriented capital, building a theory of change, or targeting PRI signatory status needs a deeper documentation set than this section alone covers, a theory of change statement, a PRI alignment assessment, an impact measurement framework. That fuller build is covered on the ESG, DEI, and impact capital page in this library's Specialized Pathways pillar. This page is the baseline every fund should be able to answer, whether or not impact positioning is part of the fundraise.
