Blueprint Intelligence / LP Archetypes / What questions will LPs ask an emerging manager?
LP Archetypes
Prepare for the investment case, the operating case and the questions that change with the allocator across the table.
LP questions test more than the pitch. They test whether the strategy can be repeated, whether the team can execute it and whether the firm can steward institutional capital. The topic list is broadly recognizable, but the emphasis changes by allocator. A family office may spend more time on access and alignment. A pension consultant may spend more time on governance, process and operational controls.
Expect the LP to move from the claim to the mechanism. A sourcing advantage invites questions about channels, conversion and evidence. A portfolio-construction slide invites questions about ownership, reserves, concentration and how the model behaves when assumptions change.
Institutional diligence also tests decision rights, economics, key-person exposure, conflicts, valuation, reporting, compliance, cybersecurity and service providers. A strong answer names the actual practice and the evidence behind it. A weak answer substitutes an intention for a control that does not yet exist.
Do not memorize one universal answer set. Test the same fund through six lenses: family office, fund of funds, endowment or foundation, pension or consultant, corporate or strategic investor, and development finance institution. Keep facts consistent while changing the level of detail and the evidence most relevant to that allocator.
If an answer is not supported yet, label the gap and state the next action. A precise open item is more credible than invented completeness.
